Diary of a Worm, a Spider, and a Fly

Theatre for Young America

Based on the popular books by Doreen Cronin, this musical play has been adapted by Joan Cushing. This will be the Kansas City premier of this new work. With a set and costumes of recycled and re-purposed materials, the show features rap, hip-hop, ballads, and boogie-woogie. Not only does the audience get information about these three species that are part of their everyday lives, but also they learn life lessons about themselves. Even worm who has no legs learns it takes all kinds of heroes to make a world. He may not have legs or wings, but he sure can wiggle to the beat and convert organic matter into rich humus, improving soil fertility and aerating the earth. The fly learns that she is a very important part of the food chain. The spider learns that without spiders, insects would take over the world. This funny play promotes recycling, eco-consciousness and earth sciences and tolerance for differently-abled creatures.
