Reaching the Write Minds is a playwriting workshop available throughout the school year to high schools and middle schools.

The workshop can be conducted in-person in your school or at another site (often the Westport CoffeeHouse is available at no additional charge).

To give a voice to emerging young writers, The Coterie offers a playwriting seminar, based on Coterie Artistic Director Jeff Church's acclaimed program that he originated at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Students will learn to:

• devise dialog, action, and learn scriptwriting format
• build characters
• write two monologues
• create a setting
• begin creation of a scene

Upon completion of this seminar with a Coterie professional playwright/facilitator, promising participants, 8th grade and older, may be selected to develop their plays in The Coterie's Young Playwrights' Roundtable.

For grades 7-12, Reaching the Write Minds can be conducted in your school or at another selected site (often the Westport Coffee House is available at no additional charge). The seminar may be held in one 5-hour session OR in two sessions, each 2 1/2-hours in length.

An advanced playwriting workshop is available allowing each student to create a company of characters they place into a variety of situations to help them find their play.
