African Textiles Workshop
Jamie Root
The diverse textile traditions found on the African Continent are presented in this workshop. Fiber artist Jamie Root uses slides, woven examples, and other visual aids to discuss how symbols facilitate communication. In the workshop students select Adinkra symbols (used extensively in fabrics among the Ashanti Kingdom from Ghana) to create stamps and print on a t-shirt to produce a graphic and unique piece of art.
